The EMF Board and Team

Prof Grantham has been on the EMF Board since 2020 and was appointed Board Chair in March 2023. His past experience includes: medical education, clinical governance, research and clinical care in the emergency, prehospital, hospital and disaster fields. He was previously Medical Director of the Ambulance Service in South Australia and was the inaugural professor of paramedics at Flinders University. Prof Grantham was awarded both the Ambulance Service Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal with Bar. He is also a member of the EMF Research Committee.

Dr Hansen is an experienced emergency medicine consultant, passionate about high-quality care that is accessible for patients and streamlined for clinicians. She is the Clinical Director of the Virtual Emergency Care Service for Queensland Virtual Hospital, and the Medical Director of Critical Care, Women’s and Children’s Service Line at Redcliffe Hospital. Dr Hansen joined the EMF Board in 2018 and served as Board Chair from March 2019 until March 2023.

Prof Tran developed a passion for emergency medicine while training in Queensland and is now Deputy Director of Emergency Medicine at the Royal Hobart Hospital and Chair of the inaugural Tasmanian Health Senate. He is a foundational director of the Tasmanian Emergency Medicine Research Institute, discipline lead for Emergency Medicine at the University of Tasmania, and Chair of ACEM’s Research Advisory Committee. Prof Tran also serves on the NHMRC Research Committee and the NHMRC Australian Health Ethics Committee. Joining the EMF Board in November 2020, Prof Tran is driven to strengthen the impact of emergency medicine research.

Dr Andrew Gosbell BAppSC, PhD, GAICD
Director

Dr Gosbell has been a Director of the EMF Board since 2021 and is an advisor and consultant to the associations and charities sector. Previously Deputy CEO and Executive Director of ACEM, as well as CEO of General Practice Registrars Australia, Dr Gosbell holds a PhD in vision science and has an enduring passion for research and its translation to improving healthcare outcomes.

Mr Tyers is a Chartered Accountant with more than 20 years’ experience in Lead Internal Audit roles. He is currently General Manager, Internal Audit at MLC Life Insurance, a former Deputy Chair of the Australian Auditing & Assurance Standards Board and a former member of the NSW Treasury Audit & Risk Committee. Mr Tyers joined the EMF Board in 2022 and is Chair of EMF’s Finance, Risk and Audit Committee.

A/Prof Lawton is a senior staff specialist in Emergency Medicine at Townsville University Hospital (TUH) and was Director of the TUH ED for five and a half years. He is a member of the Mackay Hospital and Health Service Board, an Associate Professor of Medicine at the James Cook University College of Medicine and Dentistry and works as an aeromedical coordinator for Retrieval Services Queensland. A/Prof Lawton joined the EMF Board in 2022.

Mr Edwards is a Dugulbarra – Dyirribarra and Bagirbarra man, part of MaMu Nation from Far North Queensland and joined the EMF Board in January 2024. He is School Principal/CEO at Radiant Life College, Board member of the Queensland Government Residential Tenancies Authority, Board member of the Family Day Care Association Queensland, and a National Committee Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group. Mr Edwards has extensive working knowledge within Indigenous allied health, native title, education sector, and the not-for-profit sector.

Ms Peta Bryant BEc BA(Hons) CPA MBA (ongoing)

Ms Bryant is an experienced public servant and consultant. She has held senior roles in Queensland Health, KPMG Australia and the Australian Public Service. Across all of these leadership roles Ms Bryant has led a data-driven approach to service planning, policy development and the evaluation of health and human services. Ms Bryant is currently the Deputy Director-General, System Policy and Planning Division, Queensland Health and board member of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

Dr Angie Nguyen Vu

As EMF General Manager, Angie leads the team and works closely with the Board to set and achieve strategic direction, organisational objectives, vision and purpose. Angie is also responsible for overseeing EMF’s research grants programs in her capacity as Research Manager. She has extensive experience in university research and research management in Germany, USA, Switzerland and Australia. Angie completed her PhD at the University of Zurich.

Annice works closely with the General Manager (Angie) and Grants Officer (Angel) to provide comprehensive support for all aspects of EMF grant programs. Annice completed her PhD at The University of Queensland and has experience in clinical research and data management.

Cara Green

Cara is responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, company secretarial and statutory reporting obligations for EMF. Cara is a CPA-qualified finance leader with 20+ years’ experience supporting Not-for-Profit
organisations, SMEs and multi-site businesses across financial management, reporting and governance. She enjoys being able to support the work of EMF researchers through a financially sustainable grants program.

Keira assists with EMF’s communications, including social media, report writing, and stakeholder engagement. She is passionate about highlighting the impact of EMF-funded research and sharing the stories of researchers driving improvements in emergency healthcare.

Angel Ng

Angel supports the administration and coordination of EMF’s research grant programs, working closely with researchers and the EMF team to ensure a smooth and efficient grants process. Angel assists applicants throughout the grant lifecycle, from submission to funding outcomes. Her role is vital in helping EMF deliver funding that drives impactful emergency healthcare research.
