Sepsis blood test for children

EMF has awarded a $100,000 research grant to a Queensland research team to trial a new diagnostic test for children with sepsis.

“This could lead to better treatment of infections, reduce unnecessary antibiotic use, shorten hospital length of stay, improve patient outcomes, and allow children to be cared for closer to home,” said Dr Peter Snelling an emergency medicine specialist at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

The research will involve children presenting with suspected sepsis to several Queensland Emergency Departments, including regional and remote centres.

The research was featured in a story on Channel 7 News for World Sepsis Day.
