New emergency nurse training model

Redcliffe Hospital Emergency Department Nurse Practitioners, Sharyn Plath and Mary Wright (pictured below), have developed a successful in-house model for training  emergency nurse practitioner candidates.

The pair trialled the program at Redcliffe Hospital. The program provides specialised, evidence-based training for the emergency department environment, which they say “develops the nurse practitioner candidate as a high functioning team member”.

Outcomes from the trial were published in the November 2017 edition of the Australasian Emergency Nursing Journal — the first ever article outlining an Australian in-house training model of emergency nurse practitioners.

EMF’s Research Development Manager, Dr Julia Hocking, mentored the pair in publishing their research.
