The Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF), in partnership with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM), is inviting proposals for a national economic evaluation of the impact and return on investment of emergency medicine research.

This commissioned project will deliver a high-impact, policy-relevant report to support advocacy, future investment, and system planning across emergency care in Australia.

Emergency departments are a critical pressure point in the health system, where improvements in care and systems can deliver both patient and financial benefits. However, the economic value of emergency care research is often under-recognised, despite its importance in informing implementation and good fiscal decision-making.

Project Overview

The evaluation will examine the real-world economic value of emergency medicine research, including:

  • Return on investment in emergency medicine research
  • System-level costs and challenges, such as ambulance ramping and access block
  • Patient and health system benefits from evidence-based care
  • Case studies demonstrating measurable impact across priority areas

The final report will be used to engage government, health system leaders, and funding bodies.

Key Dates

  • 1 June 2026 – Submissions open
  • Early July 2026 – Optional briefing session
  • 29 July 2026 – Submissions close
Who should Apply?

We welcome proposals from health economists, research teams and academic institutions. Teams should demonstrate strong expertise in health economics or public sector evaluation.

Submissions must address the project objectives and scope outlined in the Request for Submissions, and Include methodology, timeline, team expertise, and budget
